A Gift of Flowers as a Way to Honor Your Mother and Father

May is a great time to honor our fathers and mothers.

Mother’s Day is Sunday May 12th and Father’s Day is Sunday June 16th.  A great way to honor them both is with flowers.

Mother’s Day has long been synonymous with flowers. In fact, the tradition of giving carnations, and then eventually wearing them as corsages, began all the way back at the inception of the American version of this holiday. Why? Well, carnations were the favorite flower of founder Anna Jarvis’ mother. Anna Jarvis arrived at the first Mother’s Day celebration in 1908 with 500 carnations!

Father’s Day flowers rock! And your Father will be overjoyed when you send him Flowers on Father’s Day! Father’s Day is a day of commemoration and celebration of Dad. It is a great Fathers Day Gift idea to give him Flowers on Father’s Day as a gesture of thanks for everything he has been for you.

Father’s Day is a day to not only honor your father, but all those men who have been a father figure in your life – whether your Stepfathers, Uncles, Grandfathers, or Big Brothers.

Sonora Smart Dodd pioneered the idea of celebrating Father’s Day. She came out with the idea while listening to a Mother’s Day sermon in 1909 and the first Father’s Day was observed on June 19, 1910, in Spokane, Washington. The idea caught on and soon towns and cities across America also started to celebrate Father’s Day. In 1966, President Lyndon Johnson signed a presidential proclamation declaring the 3rd Sunday of every June as Father’s Day, and Father’s Day was made an annual celebration from 1972.

Honor in Life and Death

Roses, especially a bunch of Red Roses are traditionally given for Father’s Day.  For both Mother’s Day and Father’s Day Red flowers are traditionally used to convey respect to living fathers and mothers and White flowers are used to honor a deceased mother or father

All the best,

Alonzo
